A man has been arrested after a Nantwich woman was defrauded out of £9,000.
The victim, 58, was called by a man claiming to be an officer from the Metropolitan Police investigating her bank account.
He told her she needed to withdraw £9,000 as part of the investigation, and a man then turned up at her Nantwich address to collect the cash, claiming it was required as part of the inquiry.
After handing over the money, the lady became suspicious and called the police, which was when she discovered that she had been defrauded.
Later on the same day, after information was received from a member of the public and inquiries by officers, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Crewe.
The 21-year-old, from London, was arrested on suspicion of fraud. He is currently helping officers with their inquiries.
Cheshire Police Chief Inspector Pete Shaw said: “Information from the community is vital, and we encourage residents to contact us on 101 if you believed that there is anything suspicious in your local area.
“Fraud is a concerning issue to all police forces and advice and information is available on the Action Fraud website at www.actionfraud.police.uk“
