Brit pop giants Dodgy are excited to be performing at the start of the Nantwich Music and Words Festival, writes Rhian Critchley.
The trio had a smash hit “Good Enough” which shot them to fame in 1996 and climbed to number 4 in the UK charts.
And frontman Nigel Clark took time out to speak to Nantwichnews about why the band chose to get back together and how it feels to be headlining the opening night this Monday at Crown Ballroom in Nantwich.
He said: “It feels so good to be touring again.
“I’ve always loved the atmosphere at festivals, and at our age we feel privileged to perform at the Music and Words Festival – even though it’s been running since 2008, we’ve never had the chance to perform there so we are really excited.”
Nigel is not revealing yet what songs the trio will be performing at the gig which starts at 7.30pm.
“We want to showcase some of our new music – but it would be rude not to perform our most famous songs!” he added.
“Over a decade later and people still know us for that hit! So it will definitely make an appearance on Monday’s set.”
The band split up just a couple of years after their “Good Enough” hit, but Nigel says there were no hard feelings back then.
“We split up because I felt like I ran out of things to say!
“It wasn’t personal in anyway, I really like them guys, and I feel happy we are back together.
“When I took time out by myself to perform solo, I felt lonely. It was just me and my guitar on stage, and I felt something was missing.
“We ironed out the disagreements we used to have and thought to ourselves, why did we ever argue in the first place?”
Dodgy will be supported by singer songwriter Hannah Brown.
Nigel admitted: “We only found out about Hannah supporting us the other day, so I have not yet checked her music out, but i will give her a listen.”

Organisers of the Nantwich Words and Music Festival are hoping next week’s event will be the biggest yet.
Dozens of acts are lined up to perform at a number of venues across the town during the seven-day festival between October 6 and 12.
It starts with a launch event on Monday (October 6) at Enzo coffee shop on the town square.
Other acts performing this year include Ian McCullough, Badly Drawn Boy, Thea Gilmore, Neil Innes, King Creosote, Mark Radcliffe and Galleon Blast, Luke Wright, John Halpern and many more.
Venues like Enzo will be holding special “acoustic zone” nights during the week, with musicians performing their own brand of unique songs and readings.
Other venues staging events include Malbank Studio Theatre, Nantwich Players Theatre, Crown Hotel, and The Vine pub on Hospital Street.
Some events are already sold out, but tickets are available for others.
The festival is the brainchild of Cheshire born musician and record producer Nigel Stonier, strings player and conductor of Cheshire Sinfonia Clare “Fluff” Smith, and internationally acclaimed singer songwriter Thea Gilmore.
They were all keen to bring a brand of music, poetry, literature and theatre to Nantwich of a type and standing not normally accessible.
It is staffed and supported by a team of volunteers and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the UK.
It remains an independent event organised for the people of Nantwich, and has been helped by a £500 grant from Nantwich Town Council as well as support from local sponsors.
