Health visitor Andrea Johns Fellowship award with Daniel Poulter MP

A Nantwich health visitor is one of 150 recognised for their “outstanding” contribution to the industry.

Andrea Johns, who works for East Cheshire NHS Trust, has received the Fellowship of the Institute of Health Visiting (FiHV) at a ceremony in London.

It recognises professional achievement among health visitors, creating a new country-wide group of experts and leaders.

The scheme set out to identify 150 health visitors who have made a difference to health outcomes for children and families in England.

Andrea, based at Eagle Bridge in Crewe and lives in Nantwich, went through a rigorous application and was assessed for her contribution to health visiting.

She has been involved with projects aimed at helping families, including Cherubs (Cheshire Really Useful Breastfeeding Support) which helped promote and support breastfeeding locally.

Andrea said: “I feel proud and privileged to become a fellow of the Institute of Health Visiting.

“I was delighted to graduate at the conferment ceremony which brought together 150 fellows to celebrate excellence in health visiting.

“East Cheshire NHS Trust has supported me with this incredible opportunity to provide leadership to the health visiting programme at a local and national level.

“This is however only the beginning of the journey.

“Our highly skilled health visiting workforce will continue to work collaboratively with our school nurses and other partner agencies to improve the lives of all children within our local communities.”

Kath Senor, East Cheshire NHS Trust’s director of nursing, performance and quality, added: “Our health visitors both in Crewe and across central and eastern Cheshire are all highly committed and professional.

“But it’s great to see Andrea being recognised for her exceptional enthusiasm in helping local children and families through her role.”

Each fellow had to submit three testimonials, from a family, a peer and a senior manager.

All fellows have undertaken a four-day leadership development programme.

Dr Cheryll Adams, director of the Institute of Visiting, said: “Becoming a fellow is just the start of an exciting journey with the Institute of Health Visiting.

“Together, the fellows and the Institute will develop the next generation of health visitors, and integrate new policy and research into practice.”
