Councillors are calling for HGVs to be taken off the busy A534 Crewe/Nantwich Road through Willaston and Wistaston.
Margaret Simon, Jacquie Weatherill and Sarah Pochin want to see lorries removed from road after its speed limit was reduction from 40mph to 30mph.
The road is currently classed as a primary route which sends strategic through traffic along the Crewe/Nantwich Road and past Crewe Station.
Residents have lobbied councillors for years as the number of trucks using the road has risen – particularly at night time.
But they say completion of the Crewe Green Link Road will mean the A534 can be “de-primed”.
Cllr Margaret Simon, of Wistaston ward, said: “We have a golden opportunity, right now, to make a difference to the lives of our Crewe Road residents.
“Now that the Crewe Green Link Road is underway, this is the time to get more signage in place and direct the HGVs off this road and on to the A500.
“It would improve things for everyone living along and using the A534 from the Peacock Roundabout right up to Crewe Station.”
Fellow Wistaston Cllr Jacquie Weatherill added: “Our residents are fed up with the noise from these vehicles and the sheer weight of them causes vibration to many of their properties.
“When the HGVs are travelling in convoy at night the continuous noise wakes them up. They shouldn’t have to put up with it.
“Once the Crewe Green Link Road is open we will be actively encouraging local hauliers to stop using the A534 Crewe/Nantwich Road and to use the new strategic route.”
Cllr Sarah Pochin, newly elected for Willaston and Rope Ward in May, said: “The Crewe Green Link Road will be a real bonus for Crewe, we need to make sure it becomes the chosen route for heavy lorries.
“There have been several campaigns to reduce the weight limit of vehicles using the A534 Crewe/Nantwich Road. This is the time to take action.
“If we can make this happen, by encouraging more traffic to use a better strategic alternative route, we will hopefully see a reduction in traffic through Wistaston and Willaston.”

I cycle the full length of this road every day to and from work and do you know how many HGV’s I’ve seen between the Peacock & Wells Green this week? TWO!! Do you honestly think lorry drivers would prefer to drive along a heavily congested road (certainly from Danebank) rather than a quiet dual carriageway. Some people need to get a life. I live near the railway track so expect noise…you live on a main road, expect noise!!
I agree, the road is now a potential death trap for pedestrians and cyclists, and the HGV’s now need to use the A500. The hundreds of yards of near stationary traffic constantly passing and re passing you on a bike is a big downside to the new speed limit. The cars and HGV’s give less clearance now as you on a bike are travelling nearly at their speed and as all are now frustrated, are taking risks and making idiotic decisions such as u-turns when they see the queues. The near misses I get on daily basis cycling this route have gone up, and it is only my good luck I have not been knocked off for a while. Nice the building of all the new homes is bringing so many lorries to the area, and they don’t care, they need access., so good luck in the campaign.
