A Cheshire East councillor has quit the Independent Group after being suspended for re-joining the Conservative Party so she could vote in the Tory leadership contest.

It’s the second time Cllr Sarah Pochin has been left in the political wilderness – but today she confirmed she is happy to be “unaligned” as a councillor for Bunbury.

62 Ukrainian refugees settled in Cheshire East

Sixty-two Ukrainian refugees are now living in Cheshire East with residents who have welcomed them into their homes and another 316 have applied for visas.

Safety over crossing delays opening of new A51 Reaseheath bypass

The new A51 spine road around Reaseheath in Nantwich is unlikely to be open until mid-summer, it emerged today.

Delays to the opening, initially scheduled for February 2022, have been caused by concerns over lack of a crossing and suitable connected pathways between the town and Reaseheath College.

Council chiefs say highways engineers “worked tirelessly” to complete works on the busy A51 at Wardle near Nantwich which was closed for 16 weeks.

Work to stabilise 750 metres of carriageway began in August and required the complete closure of one of the busiest roads in the borough.

A charge for new and replacement wheelie bins will hit Nantwich and Crewe residents next month after a request to look again at the scheme was rejected.

From October, Cheshire East residents will be faced with a £30 charge for the standard 240-litre recycling, black residual waste or garden waste bin, or £25 for a smaller 140-litre bin.
