Britain’s brewers have proclaimed Cheshire’s historic Yew Tree Inn near Nantwich as the top country pub for craft beer.
The pub in Spurstow, Bunbury, is set to celebrate the title of UK’s Best Independent Craft Beer Bar from Society of Independent Brewers, with a four-day beer and music festival.
SIBA, which represents more than 800 brewers, praised the Yew Tree for its line-up of cask and craft keg beers.
Judges said the Yew Tree “combines warmth of a country pub with the beer selection of a top craft-beer-bar”.
The judges felt the broad selection of British independent craft beers in cask and keg, combined with a range of bottles and cans, was appealing and approachable.
Publican Jon Cox said: “We were already going to have a cracking Easter weekend, but now our SIBA award will make it a real celebration.
“It is wonderful our efforts as a country pub to provide a great beer selection have been recognised by the organisation that represents the majority of British brewers – a tremendous award.
“Every Easter festival we showcase brews never seen at the pub before and have a terrific list this year to appeal to everyone.
“We have also managed to secure great line up of popular musical talent.”
Jon has searched out more than 20 cask and craft keg ales the annual festival.
The music kicks off on Good Friday with local soloist Amber Prothero, from Tarporley followed by a performance from The Mac Brothers, from Liverpool.
The ever-popular Beardband duo returns on Easter Sunday.
The Yew Tree was twice hailed as ‘Pub of the Year’ by the Marketing Cheshire Awards.
And it has also earned high praise in the Camra Good Beer Guide and other top food and drink guides – including Michelin and Sawdays.
The festival runs from until Easter Monday night.
Entry is free with beer discounts for Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) members.
