Man of match against Whitby Town Jon Moran, Nantwich Town defender

Nantwich Town centre half Jon Moran has signed for Vanarama National League side Forest Green Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

The former Crewe Alexandra defender has caught the eye of many clubs after excellent performances in the 2015-16 campaign.

And the Dabbers have wished Moran well despite admitting it’s a “sad day” to see him leave.

Nantwich Town football operations director Jon Gold said: “Whilst the club and its supporters will be sad to see Jon leave, it’s a fantastic and well deserved opportunity for Jon to further develop his promising career.

“It demonstrates the platform and opportunities for development and progress that Nantwich Town offers the young and exciting players that manager Phil Parkinson is bringing into his squad.

‘Any players signing for the club know we won’t stand in their way should the right mutual opportunity arise.

“I am sure all of our supporters will be wishing Jon all the best for next season, as Forest Green who narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two this year, aim to go one better.”

Moran added: “I would like to thank all the officials and supporters of Nantwich Town, as they have been unbelievable to myself and my family over the past year following my release from Crewe.

“They gave me the confidence and belief to believe I could still realise my ambition of playing at a higher level and we have had an unbelievable season that will live forever in my memory.

“I am sure that under Phil (Parkinson), Neil (Sorvel) and Danny (Griggs) there are even more successful and memorable times to come.”
