Motorists are being warned about delays as preparation works at Crewe Green Roundabout begin on Monday (April 10).

Contractors working for Cheshire East Council will be carrying out site investigations ahead of a major scheme to re-shape one of South Cheshire’s busiest junctions.

A formal planning application will be submitted soon for the full scheme.

Starting on April 10, traffic cones will be positioned as work takes place at the kerbside in advance of lane closures beginning on April 24 for about two weeks.

The cones will be placed to protect the highways workforce.

Motorists and commercial drivers using the roundabout should expect delays until May 5.

Lane closures will be outside peak traffic hours (9.30 – 15.30.)

The Crewe Green Roundabout improvement scheme is one of the most important highways improvement projects to be carried out by the council.

It aims to minimise congestion at what is seen as a major traffic ‘pinch point’.

Cllr David Brown, cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: “The Crewe Green Roundabout and Sydney Road Bridge schemes represent the next phase in our highways strategy.

“These schemes will play a major part in supporting the economic growth of the town, making it attractive to business investment, while reducing the frustration felt by motorists and commercial road users.”
