Nantwich Youth celebrate their third goal_Fotor

Nantwich Town youth side are following in the footsteps of the first team after defeating Southport at the Weaver Stadium in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup.

Manager Lyndon Wain saw his side progress after a strong performance to defeat the visitors 3-1.

More than 120 fans watched the Dabbers youngsters progress to the competition’s second qualifying round.

Southport had taken a first-half lead when Campbell raced clear and slotted under keeper George Brookes on 35 minutes.

But the Dabbers were deservedly level just before the break when Sam Croft nipped in and poked the ball between Foster’s legs.

Seven minutes after the restart, Nantwich were ahead when the impressive Jake Davies fired a cracker into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

And Davies made sure of the victory in the 77th minutes when he curled in a fine free-kick.

Wain says he has a “superb” mix of U17s/U18s, with a large number of top players not selected.

“It’s with great support from Dave Cooke and his team to make this happen,” he added.

“From the community sessions on a Saturday morning right through to the youth team, the junior sections are thriving.”

Nantwich will now face Tranmere Rovers at home in the second qualifying round.
