First Nantwich Town goal against Marine - Craig Lindfield celebrates his goal (1)

Nantwich Town have made it 10 games unbeaten after securing a hard-fought victory on the road at Marine.

The Dabbers clinched the three points thanks to a Craig Lindfield goal on the stroke of half-time.

Nantwich defence stood strong after the break to withstand pressure from the hosts looking for a leveller.

Dave Cooke’s team are now in second place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, eight points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic but with two games in hand.

The game started scrappily, with the hosts netting on 11 minutes but only to be ruled offside.

Mitchley then went close again for Marine but fired wide when in a good position just eight yards out.

Then Nantwich scored the winner on 45 minutes.

A free kick by Sean Cooke was headed straight back to him, and his second cross was knocked down by Jamie Lawrie for Lindfield to pounce and prod home from close range.

Marine players and supporters claimed the ball back from Lawrie had already gone out but the officials allowed the goal to stand.

After the break, Dabbers keeper Fabian Speiss was called on several times to keep Marine out as the hosts piled on the pressure.

Veteran substitute Steve Jones almost made the game safe later in the half as he raced clear, rounded the keeper but his effort struck the post.

Lawrie also went close with a free-kick which was well saved, and the Dabbers managed to see the game out to secure the win.

Nantwich return to cup action this Saturday (October 27) when they travel to face Stalybridge Celtic in the first round of the FA Trophy.
