A serious accident involving an HGV and man has closed the A51 Nantwich bypass between Alvaston and Peacock roundabouts.
Cheshire Police said the accident involves a lorry and has closed the road in both directions.
Other reports suggest a man was seen trapped under the lorry after the incident.
Police, paramedics and highways teams are on the scene to divert traffic on one of the busiest routes in South Cheshire.
Cheshire East highways are warning drivers to avoid the area if possible as long tailbacks and knock on impact on surrounding routes are expected.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 11.20am today, Friday 14 December, officers were called to reports of an incident on the A51 Nantwich Bypass.
“Officers attended the scene and found that a man had become trapped under a HGV which was stationary at the time the incident occurred.
“Police, fire and ambulance remain in attendance at the scene and the A51 is currently closed in both directions from Sainsbury’s roundabout and Peacocks roundabout.”
Sounds awful, but why are lorries being allowed down Birchin Lane and then onto Whitehouse Lane which has a infant school and major speed bumps and cars parked along both sides.
