Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

The critically acclaimed play Gypsy Queen was performed for one night only at The Lyceum Studio on Monday, writes Claire Faulkner.

A fast-paced, cleverly scripted love story about two men who find each other in the most unlikely of circumstances.

Written by Rob Ward and directed by Adam Zane, Gypsy Queen tells the story of boxers ‘Gorgeous’ George O’Connell, a bare-knuckle fighter from the travelling community and Dane ‘The Pain’ Samson, son of the local trainer and gym owner.

Both have something to prove, both have families to fight for.

It’s a poignant story, which develops themes around identity, belonging and acceptance.

As the characters learn more about themselves, a series of events unfolds from which there is no return.

The play was superbly performed by Ryan Clayton and Rob Ward.

Both actors cover the multiple roles in this play with ease, switching into different characters with quick costume changes.

There are also some very funny moments, the relationship between George and his Mother was excellent.

There is heart and soul in this play. It’s an important piece of theatre.

Gypsy Queen continues its tour of the UK in February and March.
