A rugby festival organised by Crewe & Nantwich RUFC raised an incredible £6,500 for MIND.
More than 400 people attended the Vagrants-based club event including England International Stars and Crewe & Nantwich RUFC alumni Ben and Tom Curry.
It was organised as a celebration of rugby across several generations comprising both past, present and future players.
The Festival was the brainchild of Carl Telfer, a former player and coach who is currently undergoing treatment for a serious illness, alongside club stalwart and 3rd team manager Richard Smith with support from Nik Joyce, the club Chair.
Hundreds of supporters from all parts of the club, including Minis and Juniors, Men and Ladies watched current players playing alongside club legends from previous seasons.
Under 11s also demonstrated their emerging talent putting on a game in the interval.
Money raised is testament to the support the club has enjoyed all season with the Men and Ladies squads winning silverware, the Colts making the Cheshire Club final and several players representing their counties recently from all sections of the club.
Club chair Nik Joyce said: “This event was the brainchild of a few of us determined to showcase what the club is all about and raising money for a fantastic cause along the way.
“The playing season is always a challenge with several highs and lows, so to celebrate the community aspect of the club like this is a fantastic way to finish the playing season and showcase what we are all about.”
Carl Telfer added: “The success of the day went beyond my wildest dreams.
“Seeing so many ex-teammates, friends and family both watching and playing reminds all of us why we do it and what it can bring to those involved.
“Having England and Sale Sharks stars Ben and Tom Curry watching was fantastic.
“Both started playing at the club as juniors and the fact they took the time to attend is a great reminder of what Crewe & Nantwich means to people, and also where rugby can take you.
“Raising £6,500 for a fantastic charity is testament to the generosity of everyone involved.”
Pre-season training ahead of the 2019-20 season starts in early July for senior squads.
