A play park in Willaston is being closed in the evenings amid rising anti-social behaviour on the site.
Police and councillors took the decision after an elderly resident in the village was assaulted on the park.
The parish council and beat officers say gates will be locked each evening and overnight in a bid to tackle the anti-social behaviour.
It comes after a 72-year-old in the village was assaulted on Saturday (June 22).
Police say the suspected assailant is a teenage girl, aruond 15 years old, described as long fair hair, spotty complexion, large build, wearing black ski pants and green top.
A spokesperson for Willaston and Wistaston police said: “Following further reports of anti-social behaviour and an elderly resident being assaulted in Willaston play park, regrettably a decision has been made by the parish council and PC Clark to close the park in the evenings and lock the gates during the evenings/overnight.
“PC Clark and PCSO Hobbs will be stepping up high visibility patrolling in the area.
“Unfortunately, the actions of a few have resulted in this decision.”
Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should call 101, quoting IML 435403 or call crime stoppers anonymously on 0800555111.
The park is closed today 14.30pm on a Sunday. We have 3 boys who wish to play football, we have no garden. I am angry and saddened by the closure of the park. It states in this article it is only being closed in the evening but clearly no one has opened the gates today. The actions of a few ruin enjoyment for everyone else.
