bella at nantwich baths for charity swim

Nantwich youngster Bella Mckinney made a big splash for charity after swimming in aid of Wingate Children’s Centre.

The big-hearted six-year-old swam 1,000 metres and raised 333% of her original target of £500.

Bella uses the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury for gymnastics sessions.

Bella’s mum Jane McKinney, of Regent’s Park in Nantwich, said: “She noticed that they were selling toys and sweets and asked me why.

“I explained that it is to raise money for the centre, so that lots of children with disabilities could come for holidays or days out to and use the facilities.

“Bella decided that she wanted to raise some money to help and wrote a list of things she could do, eventually deciding on a swim.

“We thought perhaps a few lengths, but Bella had other ideas!”

Bella set herself a target of 1,000 metres.

She practised every weekend courtesy of her dad Keith, and built up her stamina.

On the day she completed an incredible 40 lengths in just 55 minutes.

Sarah Hampton, fundraiser at the Wingate Special Children’s Trust said: “An amazing achievement, it is not often that people raise so much more than their original target.

“Thank you to everyone who supported Bella and of course a very big thank you to Bella for all her hard work.”

It’s not the first time Bella has hit the headlines this summer!

The St Anne’s School pupil leapt and bounced her way to silver medal overall as she competed for Cheshire Gymnastics at the Hannah Wheelan Invitational in Warrington.
