Crewe & Nantwich RUFC 1sts’ 20-35 win against Burntwood is proof the team can “win ugly”, says coach John Farr.
Crewe made it back to back wins to move in the right direction up Midlands 2 West.
They now have a week off before welcoming league leaders Camp Hill to the Vagrants on January 25.
Head Coach Farr said: “It was a hard fought win under difficult circumstances.
“Exactly what the boys needed.
“It wasn’t pretty at times but two back to back bonus point wins is proof that we’re now prepared to do the hard yards and win ugly.”
Crewe and Nantwich Ladies also won 5-24 against Eccles.
The Ladies won with tries by Simone Brook Smith (2), skipper Mollie Latham, Lucy Goose
They have two weeks’ rest before they play in the next round of the plate against Kenilworth at home on Sunday February 2.
Mollie Latham said: “It was a tough match in tough conditions but despite a challenging start we got our heads into the game and did what we needed to do.
“We now need to work hard and capitalise on the next two week break as we have some tough return fixtures coming up and there’s no place for complacency in this league!”
Crewe and Nantwich Ladies U18s played their first full game, fielding 14 players in a defeat against a very strong Burton side.
