Police are hunting arsonists who torched three cars close to the centre of Nantwich.
The fires happened in two separate incidents in the Beam Street and Birchin Lane areas of the town.
Fire crews from Nantwich were called out, and police are investigating.
The first incident was on Beam Street at about 12.50am today (October 16).
Two saloon cars – a Vauxhall Astra and a Peugeot 206 – were torched and ablaze when crews arrived.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue said there were “two separate seats of fire which were believed to have been set deliberately”.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.
About 15 minutes later, a second fire was reported on Birchin Lane.
It had been started under the rear of a saloon car. The fire was out when crews arrived and they carried out a full inspection to make sure there were no further hotspots of fire.
Sgt Richard Tomlinson, of Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “The three fires happened within a short space of time indicating they are likely to be connected.
“Enquiries are continuing to trace the person, or people involved and we would urge anyone with information to contact police on 101 if they have any information.
“We would also ask anyone who spots suspicious activity in their area to contact police.”
Anyone with information can contact Nantwich NPU on 101 quoting incident number 19 of 16 October 2013 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
The colour of the cars may be significant. I’ve heard about some stupid game of snooker/pool they play buy torching cars, points per colour etc…Beggars belief!
