Primary school pupils across Nantwich were bowled over after taking part in a diamond cricket festival at South Cheshire College.
Youngsters in years 4 and 5 from Stapeley, Wybunbury, Wrenbury, Shavington and Wistaston went head-to-head in the event which gave them an introduction to the game.
They learnt how to bat, bowl and field at the session on the College’s MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) and was organised by the Crewe & Nantwich School Sports Partnership (CNSSP).
Children were divided into two equal teams and four batters were able to bat at the same time, defending four different sets of stumps with the bowler standing in the middle of a diamond formation.
The CNSSP links local primary, secondary and special schools to develop Physical Education and sport opportunities for all young people in full time education.
Its vision is to inspire all children and young people, through PE and sport, to lead healthy active lifestyles.
Niall McGregor, school games organiser for the Crewe and Nantwich School Sports Partnership, said: “The cricket festival brought together pupils from Crewe schools to participate in cricket.
“The children all enjoyed themselves and had an opportunity to bat, bowl and field. Events like this are a great way of introducing primary school children to a new sport.
“We are very grateful to South Cheshire College for providing us with the excellent MUGA facility and for supporting the event.”
