A Music for a Summer Evening fund-raising concert by South Cheshire Orchestra was held at Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre, writes Jonathan White.
The concert featured South Cheshire Orchestra conducted by Richard Moulton-Mallison, who introduced each music score.
South Cheshire Orchestra performed music including HMS Pinafore Overture (Arthur Sullivan), Gold & Silver Waltz (Franz Lehar), Egyptian March (Johann Strauss), Serenata (Leroy Anderson), Dance of the Tumblers (Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov), Chason Dr Matin (Edward Elgar), Orpheus in the Underworld Overture (Jacques Offenbach), Horse & Buggy (Leroy Anderson), Joplinese, Westminster Waltz (Robert Farnon), and Brighton Run Polka.
It finished with an audience sing-a-long of popular English song The Floral Dance, which describes the annual Furry Dance in Helston, Cornwall and was a special request by John White, chairman of Wistaston Memorial Hall Committee.
The orchestra played in an enthusiastic, energetic and professional manner to an appreciative audience of more than 70 people.
Refreshments were provided during the interval, along with the draw for the prize raffle.
There was also an information stall, setup and staffed by George Edge-Robinson, for advice about the numerous groups and societies that use Wistaston Memorial Hall throughout the year.
The concert was part of the 70th anniversary of the opening of the Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre, which was built in memory of the sixteen Wistonians who perished in World War II.
All profits from the ticket sales and raffle will go to the Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre.
Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre Vice Chairperson Diane Edge-Robinson said: “There was a fabulous turnout for this wonderful concert. These events would not be possible without the support of the community.”
