Angry rail customers in Nantwich have hit out after it emerged the daily commute prices to Manchester were raised by 28%!
Passengers travelling from Nantwich on morning services have seen the daily return price rise from £12.90 to £16.60.
It comes as average rail prices across the country have risen by 2.7% across all operators.
To many travellers, the company appeared to have ended the “TFW only” return option for morning services before 9am, but has since denied this.
One customers Jonney Cox said: “Is there any reason the TFW only return ticket from Nantwich to Manchester has been stopped?
“Daily return now increased from £12.90 to £16.60. That’s a nice 28% increase for a lot of angry commuters today!”
Another traveller added: “The Transport for Wales only ticket for that journey was just £10.90 in December 2019, before the fares went up and it disappeared!”
And commuter Jan Jackson said: “I would accept a slight price increase – not a 28% increase though, this is outrageous – if we had more and better carriages and for punctuality / reliability!
“The service has deteriorated so much since TFW took over from Arriva. How they can justify this increase beggars belief!”
A single journey from Nantwich to Manchester Piccadilly costs £11.10 if using TFW only, while a single on any permitted route and operator is £14.80.
Off peak returns are £14, but only begin after 11am from Nantwich.
A spokesman for TFW Rail said today the new fares were set by Northern Rail and they were unable to comment on those.
And he confirmed the “TFW only” cheaper ticket was missing on ticket machines today because of an error with the system.
He said: “Unfortunately there has been a small system error, that is in the process of being reinstated and this option will be available once again.”
We have contacted Northern Rail and are awaiting a comment.

It wouldn’t be so bad if you actually got a seat on the train but they never put enough carriages on. Money grabbing and get nothing in return!
