One of the busiest roads in and out of Nantwich is to close for four days, Cheshire East highways have said.

Newcastle Road, between the Elwood Way traffic lights and level crossing, will close from September 16 between the hours of 9.30am and 2.30pm.

300 homes plan for Crewe town centre after leisure park shelved

Three hundred homes could built in Crewe town centre instead of a leisure park which Cheshire East Council shelved due to rising costs.

The council is currently in talks with an unnamed developer over proposals to build the 300 homes on the former Royal Arcade site.

Cheshire East Council forecasts £3.1 million overspend for 2025-26

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council is forecasting a £3.1 million overspend this year – in addition to the planned use of £25.3 million exceptional financial support.

The figures are revealed in the first financial review of 2025/26 (FR1) and are based on the council’s income, expenditure and known commitments as at the end of June 2025.
