Cheshire East councillors today voted to permanently close three tips to shouts of “absolute disgrace” and “shame on you” from angry members of the public.
The cash-strapped authority is facing a £27m overspend at the end of this year and needs to save £100m over the next four-year period.

Cheshire East councillors have voted to freeze their allowances until May 2021 – but still receive a basic allowance of more than £12,000 each.
The authority’s independent remuneration panel had recommended allowances, paid as compensation for time performing duties in their role, be increased.
