Town councillors have backed a campaigner to call for Cheshire East Council to pause any auction of Brookfield Hall in Nantwich.
Sam James is spearheading a campaign to save the hall and turn it into a community asset for local groups to use.

Eight candidates will battle it out in the general election in a bid to become the next MP for Crewe and Nantwich.
Ben Fletcher is the new Conservative candidate and will be hoping the Tories can keep hold of the seat which has had a tendency to alternate between Labour and Conservative over the past few years.
Eddisbury MP Edward Timpson is to run his 18th London Marathon in memory of his mother and to raise funds for The Christie Charity.
Mr Timpson, formerly a Tory MP for Crewe and Nantwich, will be lacing up his running shoes for the 2024 London Marathon on Sunday April 21.
The former Crewe & Nantwich MP Laura Smith has quit the Labour Party, and launched a stinging attack on what she called its culture of “bullying, belittling, fear and lack of respect”.
Ms Smith made the announcement just days after being suspended by the local Cheshire East Labour group.

A senior local Conservative has urged Dr Kieran Mullan to stand down as an MP at the next election following claims he wants to ditch Crewe and Nantwich for the safer new Eddisbury seat.
Dr Mullan has remained tight-lipped over the claims that he has expressed an interest in the Chester South and Eddisbury seat.

Former Crewe and Nantwich MP Laura Smith has said she will not be standing as Labour’s parliamentary candidate at the next general election.
Ms Smith won the seat from the Conservatives in 2017, beating sitting MP Edward Timpson by just 48 votes after three recounts.
