Police defend handling of M6 crash which left drivers stranded for 12 hours

Police chiefs defended their handling of the impact of the M6 crash this week which left thousands of drivers stranded for up to 12 hours on the motorway in soaring temperatures.

The incident, which resulted in the death of an HGV driver, happened northbound between junctions 17 and 18 when a lorry collided with a railway bridge.

Thousands caught up in M6 chaos after two crashes in Cheshire

Two separate crashes on the M6 in Cheshire left thousands of motorists in long tailbacks today.

The driver managed to escape this crash which left a vehicle on its side on the southbound carriageway between junctions 19 and 18 at around 8.30am.

Lorry fire closes M6 in Cheshire, sparking 10-mile tailbacks

Thousands of drivers were delayed for hours in Cheshire today after the M6 was closed because of a lorry fire. The truck carrying plastic pallets caught fire on the northbound carriageway near Knutsford.
