Councillors fear drop in Cheshire East recycling rates amid Govt plans

Recycling rates across Cheshire East could drop if the Government goes ahead with proposals which could see each household have up to six bins, councillors fear.

The Government wants a more consistent approach to the way waste is collected and recycled across England and has published consultations on new waste management and funding changes for 2023.

Recycling rates in Cheshire East have fallen slightly over the last five years.

New data, sourced from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs also shows that Cheshire East Council collected 501.3kg of household waste per person from homes in the area in 2019-20 — 18.3kg more than five years earlier.
