town square for xmas lights switch on

Thousands of families packed in to Nantwich town square to enjoy the annual Christmas Lights switch-on event, writes Kirsty Rollings.

Families young and old enjoyed a host of entertainment and a spectacular firework display.

Local Elvis tribute artist, Paul Larcombe, pressed the festive start button at the switch on at around 6.30pm

Families arrived early to take advantage of the fun fair and to get an early glimpse of Santa and surprise arrival of The Grinch.

Award-winning Blitz Fireworks introduced the excellent Nantwich Young Voices, before Graceland endorsed and Nantwich-born Larcombe took to the stage, opening with Burning Love.

Lucky spectators at the font of the crowd became proud owners of the trademark Elvis Presley scarf, between Larcombe’s humorous and entertaining interaction with the crowd.

Cllr Christine Farrall, Mayor of Nantwich Town Council, joined him on stage before a crowd count down to Nantwich Christmas lights lighting up the town square, followed by a short firework display from Blitz Fireworks.

Cllr Farrall said: “I’d like to thank all of those people involved in making this evening as good as it has been.

“Thank you to the Nantwich Young Voices, Paul Larcombe, the events volunteers, Applewood Independent Ltd for generously sponsoring the town centre Christmas tree.

“To Blitz Fireworks and of course the great team within Nantwich Town Council who have been working 24/7 over the last few weeks for tonight.”

Paul Larcombe said: “It was a privilege and an honour to play to the people of Nantwich this evening.

“I’ve had a great night and what really topped it off, was the amount of people who turned up.

“I knew from social media that there was a buzz around the Christmas light switch on, but I didn’t expect for a minute that it would be that packed!”

Paul Larcombe will be back in Nantwich as Elvis, on 20th December at the Civic Hall. For more information visit www.purepreseley.com
