The Walter Smith Fine Food butchers shop at Bridgemere Garden World has been awarded membership of national Q Guild.
The store, based at Bridgemere’s Wyevale Garden Centre off the A51, is one of just two to gain the recognition after opening in November last year.
Membership of the Q Guild means they are among the highest quality butchers in the UK.
The Q Guild brand has 110 members, all award-winning butchers from the Scottish Highlands to the south coast.
Bridgemere Nursery & Garden World, established 50 years ago, is now the largest garden centre in Europe.
The Walter Smith Fine Food butchers shop is managed by James Wightman, who earlier this year won Young Manager of the Year in the 2015 Meat Management Industry Awards.
Shops must pass stringent food hygiene, health and safety audits carried out by leading UK independent consultancy Hygiene Audit Systems.
Robert Jones, director of Walter Smith’s, said: “We’re thrilled two more of our shops have been awarded Q Guild membership – only Britain’s best butchers are allowed to trade within this industry-leading body.
“We are confident that, like our other outlets, they will continue to go from strength to strength and benefit from being part of the Q Guild.
“These butchers are committed to supporting British farmers with home-produced beef, lamb, pork, game and poultry, providing an outstanding selection of meat and meat-related products of the highest quality.”
Gordon Newlands, general manager of the Q Guild, said: “We are delighted to welcome another two of Walter Smith’s Fine Foods shops into the Q Guild.
“The shops are both managed by up and coming young men and this is extremely pleasing to the Q Guild, as both young managers display a huge sense of skill, innovation and leadership.”
