Nantwich Town goalkeeping coach Chris Parkes believes Nantwich’s final goal in the stunning 6-2 victory summed up the team’s character.

The Dabbers passed the ball out from the back before allowing Lewis Short to break, laying it off to Josh Hancock who tapped home to complete a 6-2 victory over Grantham.

And as Nantwich prepare to visit Barwell tonight (September 22), Parkes said: “To go in 2-1 down at half time was a blow but they came out and showed great character and togetherness.

“You could see this in abundance throughout the second half and what a performance it was.

“They worked hard for themselves and each other and the last goal summed it up perfectly for me.

“All the camaraderie and team spirit the lads have by playing 100% right to the end of the game, even at 5-2 up.

“They could have relaxed but wanted more goals and Lewis Short squared to Josh Hancock to allow him to pass it into the net for the final goal to seal another victory.

“That in itself shows great team spirit we have got at this club.

“A great fightback from 1-2 down and then to keep playing amazing football until we win 6-2. That will be great for the confidence within the dressing room.”

A brace from Steve Jones and Josh Hancock, as well as one each from Matty Kosylo and Liam Shotton, put the Dabbers on 29 goals so far this season.

A number of players stood out, however it was Steve Jones (pictured) who earned man of the match from PG Consultancy for the first time this season.

“Steve, if he keeps going the way he is, when he grows up he is going to be some footballer!” joked Parkes about the 38-year-old.

“Sam Hall has labeled Jones “Benjamin Button”, just because he seems to be rolling back the time. Time and time again he performs so well for us.

“He is very experienced, has tremendous work ethic and fantastic professionalism.

“I am a massive fan of his and have said on many occasions what a great guy he is. No big ego there, despite his successful career.

“His pace for a 38-year-old is testament to that lad and the way he looks after himself away from the ground and words so hard in training. I really can’t say enough positive things about him.

“It wouldn’t be fair to single Steve out, though.

“I thought Matty Kosylo had a good game and was running him close for man of the match.

“Sam Hall was immense, he had a huge game and is a big presence in our team. Sam epitomizes the way we play, he moves the ball around so well.

“Matt Bell had a tremendous game, he can play in three or four places and he is class. Last season we were hard to break down, but we didn’t score many.

“This season we can’t stop scoring and if we can just eradicate those little errors so we concede less, even get some clean sheets, then things will be good for us.”
