CEC refuse Tory request to reconsider parking charges plan

Cheshire East Council has refused a formal request from the Conservatives to reconsider the decision to introduce parking charges in free towns and hike up prices in others.

The highways and transport committee last month voted in favour of changes to the parking policy, which includes introducing charges in the existing ‘free’ towns and villages of Audlem, Alsager, Bollington, Handforth, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich, Poynton, Prestbury and Sandbach.

Cheshire East Council’s revised planning policy for the borough has been declared “sound” by an independent planning inspector.

The draft plan, known as the site allocation and development policy document (SADPD), outlines changes following various consultations with residents and local councils.

CEC councillors told NOT to use ward budgets for gritting

Cheshire East Council has refused to allow its councillors to use their ward budgets to pay for gritting on treacherous roads because it goes against its new winter policy.

The Labour/Independent administration axed around 100 roads from its winter gritting route when it introduced its new policy this winter – including busy rural routes like Coole Lane and Checkley Lane near Nantwich.

We revealed in June how some roads have been removed from the route this winter including many rural roads in and around Nantwich.

The proposed changes follow four rounds of consultation with residents and local councils, in which they received more than 4,000 comments.

More than 200 roads including many rural lanes in and around Nantwich will be taken off Cheshire East Council’s gritting routes after councillors approved the plan.

The controversial policy, which will come into effect from October this year, has been met with fierce criticism with many saying the council is putting lives in danger.
