Crewe & Nantwich RUFC Geoff Crawford has urged his team not to “lose their nerve” as they fight for the league title.
He spoke out after the 1st team notched another crucial victory, this time 21-19 against title rivals Ruskin Park.
Crawford said: “It was a good game, tougher than last week.
“The league is now wide open but promotion is now back in our hands.
“It is just a question of keeping our focus and containing to play the open running style of rugby and not losing our nerve.”
The Vagrants side left it late to clinch the points after squandering a 16-5 lead to a powerful Ruskin side.
Crewe & Nantwich raced into a 13-0 lead, before the visitors hit back and a try late in the first period made it 16-12 at the break.
Ruskin added a second try after the break to take the lead 19-16, but Crawford’s men were not beaten.
With 10 minutes left, they surged downfield and touched down in the corner. Ruskin had a player sent to the sin bin and the hosts saw out the victory.
Crewe are now second in South Lancs & Cheshire 2, just two points behind leaders Oswestry with five games left.
