Nantwich Cricket Club, Whitehouse Lane

Nantwich CC fell just short of victory at home to Toft in another rain-affected Cheshire County Premier League clash.

Nantwich batted first on their home strip at Whitehouse Lane, but were soon in trouble and were reduced to 58 for 7.

Jimmy Warrington and Frank Farrington added 31 vital runs in their eighth wicket partnership to swing the tie back in Nantwich’s favour.

The hosts were eventually out for 130, a ball short of their allotted 55 overs. Shaun Mudilage did most of the damage for Toft, claiming 5 for 65 off 27 overs.

Rain meant Toft’s reply was reduced to 33 overs, and they were in trouble from the start as Warrington and Ollie Griffiths steamed in to take three wickets apiece.

Only Patrick Ashling (24) offered resistance, as skipper Andy Newton chipped in with two wickets.

But Toft did well to hang on and see out the 33 overs, ending on 75 for 8, to claim a draw.

The tie leaves Nantwich eighth on 121 points midway through the season, looking over their shoulders at relegation places as opposed to the top of the league.

But the 1sts made up for that disappointment with victory in the Cheshire Cup 24 hours later.

They claims a five-wicket triumph over Warrington, after reducing their opponents to 110 all out, Alex Matthews notching an excellent 5 wickets for just 23 runs.

Ollie Law’s 33 not out helped guide Nantwich comfortably through to the quarter-finals where they will play Hyde CC away on July 15.
