Age UK Cheshire wants nimble-fingered knitters from Nantwich to give them some needle – and create woolly hats for Big Knit 2012.
Now in its ninth year, Big Knit raises funds for winter projects to help keep older people warmer in winter.
Age UK Cheshire has teamed up with smoothie-makers Innocent to knit woolly hats for their bottles in Sainsbury’s stores from November.
For each be-hatted smoothie sold, Innocent has pledged to pay 25p to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign, helping to fund national and local winter projects.
Age UK Cheshire aims to knit 1,000 hats by September 21 – and needs budding milliners of all ages to pitch in.
Ken Clemens, chief officer at Age UK Cheshire, said: “Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it’s really important local knitters get behind The Big Knit to help raise funds.”
Rachel Rowland, from Innocent drinks, said: “The Big Knit is a fantastic way to get creative and raise money for a great cause.”
Age UK launched its annual Spread the Warmth campaign to make winter warmer for older people by providing information, advice and practical services.
Knitters can contact Age UK Cheshire to get a simple free hat pattern.
Non-knitters can also donate wool and needles to Georgina Alexander-Pulham, fundraiser and marketing officer, Age UK Cheshire, 314 Chester Road, Hartford, Cheshire CW8 2AB. Completed hats should be posted to this address.
