An exhibition is being held today (June 21) to show Nantwich residents plans for a new drainage system in part of the town.

Nantwichnews revealed how the proposed works could see the closure of Wellington Road for up to six weeks this summer.

United Utilities wants to carry out major sewer works to tackle flooding problems along the busy B5341 Wellington Road in and out of Nantwich.

Plans are on display today at Nantwich Town Council’s Brookfield Hall on Shrewbridge Road, from midday to 7pm.

The display will give residents a chance to look at where closures will be, where works will take place, and what the works intend to do.

These include plans for a new major sewer running from the B5341, across part of Brookfield Park and down to Shrewbridge Road.

It could disrupt several allotments at Brookfield Park, and may close part of the park off itself.

The company wants to carry out the works during school summer holidays to minimise traffic disruption at peak times.

Any closures will mean diversions to send traffic into town via Peter de Stapleigh Way, Ellwood Drive and London Road.

A United Utilities spokeswoman said 17 homes will be taken off the flooding National Risk Register as a result of the work.
