A Nantwich school scooped glory in the annual Town Sports contest on the town’s Barony Park.
Pear Tree Primary, in Stapeley, were crowned overall winners after two intense days of competition involving 29 schools across Crewe and Nantwich.
Hundreds of families, teachers and young competitors gathered in the sun on the Barony for the track events last night (June 26).
And Pear Tree were crowned champions after scoring consistently high across all four year groups – years 3, 4 5 and 6.
Scores from last night were added to the scores schools achieved in the field events at Cumberland sports ground in Crewe on Monday night (June 24).
The 29 schools compete in three leagues – A, B and C – depending on past performances.
Other Nantwich schools taking part included Wybunbury Delves and Wistaston Church Lane in group A; Acton Primary, Weaver Primary, St Anne’s, Highfields and Shavington (group B); and Millfields Primary, Audlem, and St Oswald’s Worleston in group C.
Track events included a hurdles race, a sprint, bean bag race and a 4-person sprint relay.
Girls and boys competed in their own races, and overall there were 96 events across the three leagues and four age groups.
A spokesman for the organisers Crewe and Nantwich School Sports Partnership (CNSSP) said: “A very big thank you to all the schools taking part in both the track and field events, and for all the school staff and volunteers.
“Without them the event would not be possible.”
