Nantwich Foodbank has been offered further backing by South Cheshire housing provider Wulvern.
The company has pledged another year’s support to the Trussell Trust Foodbank in Nantwich, as well as the St Paul’s Pantry one in Crewe.
The local foodbanks have been helping hundreds of hungry residents with vital supplies during tougher economic times.
According to the Trussell Trust, there has been a 170% rise in the number of people using foodbanks between 2012-2013.
Since opening earlier this year, Nantwich and Crewe Foodbanks have fed over 700 people.
Ceris Esplen, of Wulvern marketing and partnerships, said: “Changes to welfare benefits means many are struggling to put food on the table and causing more people to turn to Foodbanks for help.
“Wulvern’s continued support of the Foodbanks in Crewe and Nantwich is one of the many ways we are supporting our customers who are facing the challenges of Welfare Reform.
“Foodbanks help prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. A simple box of food makes a big difference and our continued support will help stop local people going hungry.”
Jane Emery, of Nantwich Foodbank, said: “Foodbanks are seeing people from all walks of life turning to us for help when they hit crisis.
“The current economic situation means times are tough for many. Every day we meet parents who are skipping meals to feed their children.
“It is shocking there is such a great need for Foodbanks in 21st century Britain, but the need is growing.
“We are seeing an increasing number of people who are struggling due to the impact of the bedroom tax which was introduced in April.”
