This was the haul of rubbish found dumped under a hedge by stunned Nantwich Litter Group volunteers.

Fly-tippers left a pile of garbage including wood, carpet, pans and other items under the hedge where litter pickers uncovered it.

The haul was so large, they had to contact Cheshire East Council’s Streetscape to collect it in a wagon.

Thirteen Nantwich Litter Group volunteers took part in the latest clean-up of the town’s footpaths and hedgerows.

The hardy troop braved the rain to tackle rubbish left by litter louts along Wellington Road, Station Road, Cronkinson Oak, various footpaths and the area around Morrisons supermarket.

The final Group Pick of 2013 will be on Wednesday October 30.

Meanwhile volunteers, currently totaling over 70, will continue working in their own chosen areas either individually or in small groups.

A spokeswoman said: “Keeping our town free of litter is something in which everyone can play a part.

“Residents and traders alike are urged to make sure that the pavement/grass/hedge in front of their home or premises is kept tidy.”

New volunteers are welcome and litter picking kits are provided.
