Nantwich Town manager Danny Johnson admits his players had got “stuck in a rut” before this week’s crucial victory over Marine.

The Dabbers claimed a late 2-1 win over their lowly opponents at the Weaver Stadium, thanks to an Adam Jones brace.

And Johnson hopes the win, on a night which paid tribute to lifelong fan Neville Clarke, will spur his players on to better things.

He said: “This is what this league is about and these sorts of games are tight every game is nip and tuck.

“It just so happens we had that little bit of luck with the quality of Adam Jones getting on the end of things and that is what he does best.

“They [the lads] have been kicking themselves a little bit, getting stuck in a bit of a rut.

“But they have come out and ground out a result, which is sometimes a lot better than when you go and win five or six nil.”

The Dabbers came out of the blocks fast to start the game, which delighted their manager.

“We speak about ability isn’t the be all and end all.

“Ability just takes over at the end and that is what we have found with the bits and pieces we have tried in the last third.

“The quality of crosses and winning balls in the box.

“That is what we expect it’s a given, the work rate, the commitment, the desire that has got to be a given. That is what we have got to do.

“If the lads do what they did tonight, do what they did against Workington on Saturday, play like they did against Matlock.

“Bin the performances against Trafford and the other performances and we will go on from here.

“I keep saying to them that we do go on and stop talking about it and we start moving up the table now.”

Nantwich Town are now a mid-table 12th in Evo-Stik Premier League.

They welcome FC United of Manchester this Saturday in what is traditionally the biggest crowd of the season.
