Maternity Staff (Group) at Leighton Hospital

The maternity service at Leighton Hospital serving Crewe and Nantwich has been shortlisted for a national award.

The unit, managed by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), will compete against hospitals from Hampshire and Basildon for the Mothercare Maternity Service of the Year award.

The award is part of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards.

The Maternity Service of the Year Award aims to recognise excellence and innovation in maternity care and in the organisation of the service.

Pam Cornwall, head of midwifery at MCHFT, said: “I am absolutely delighted we have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.

“We have an amazing team of committed professionals here and this shortlisting is down to the care and devotion they provide to each and every one of our pregnant ladies and their families.

“The maternity service here has developed greatly over the past few years and this nomination is recognition we are up there with the best in the country.”

The RCM Award shortlisting is the latest accolade, following a positive rating in the CQC National Patient Survey as well as being named one of the safest in the country by CNST and achieving Stage Two of UNICEF’s Baby Friendly initiative.

Leighton Hospital’s maternity unit has undergone refurbishment in recent years.

It has a purpose-built midwifery-led unit attached to the labour ward, with birthing pools, mood lighting, en-suite facilities and private courtyard.
