39 Steps at Crewe Lyceum

Theatre goers are in for a treat at The Lyceum in Crewe watching the production “The 39 Steps”, writes Claire Faulkner.

The show has arrived in South Cheshire this week as part of its national tour direct from London’s West End.

Based on the classic Hancock thriller, adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, this production is brilliantly fast-paced, extremely funny and very clever.

The amount of work that the cast puts into the show can not be understated.

Our hero, ‘Richard Hannay’, played by Richard Ede, stumbles into an action-packed adventure, complete with murder, secret agents and beautiful women.

Olivia Greene, Rob Witcomb and Andrew Hodges all play a multitude of characters far too numerous to mention, but were all wonderful.

Complete with British humour the whole family can enjoy, ‘The 39 Steps’ is not to be missed.

I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

My favourite moments in the show were the train and car journeys. Just brilliant.

What makes this show so special is not only its inventiveness, but its use of props, space and a fabulous cast who magically weave in and out of a multitude of characters with expert skill and timing.

‘The 39 Steps’ is showing at The Lyceum until Saturday April 16.
