Young Crewe and Nantwich athletes helped Cheshire reach the Sportshall national finals.

The Under 13 boys Cheshire team will now take on the best from around the UK in the final at Sport City in Manchester on April 13.

Seven boys from Crewe and Nantwich athletic club took part in the North West regional final, including Alfie Carter, Andrew Salmon, Ethan Pender, Isaac Leydon, Kacper Mikulski, Ogo Orungbemi and Thomas Stokes.

Although they were runners up to Greater Manchester, they reached the national finals for being the best runners up team across the UK.

They took part in seven running events and five field events during the regional final, competing against Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire.

Individual medal winners included Isaac Leydon, gold medal for Speed Bounce, Ethan Pender silver medal in Shot, Kacper Mikulski silver in 4-lap, Alfie Carter silver in Triple Jump.

The Cheshire team, 12 athletes in total, also had boys from Macclesfield and West Cheshire clubs.

The Cheshire Under 13 girls finished fourth overall, while the U15 boys and girls teams finished second and third so have not made the national final.

Cheshire Under 11 girls won the regional final. There is no national final in that age group.
