A Wistaston resident has been hailed by police as a “community hero” for helping so many people during the current COVID-19 lockdown.
Cheshire Police called Nadiah Mckeown a “diamond Wistaston resident” who has helped more than 100 residents across Crewe, Wistaston, Willaston, Nantwich, Shavington.
Nadiah set up the “Coronavirus Isolation Help Group” for Wistaston, Crewe & Nantwich residents via Facebook almost a month ago, as revealed on Nantwich News.
It has almost 3,000 members already and growing daily.
Cheshire Police said on social media: “Isolation for many is tough, but Nadiah and her volunteers ensured residents weren’t alone.”
They awarded Nadiah a “Certificate of Achievement” today for going “above and beyond” in supporting residents.
Nadiah has recruited a team of volunteers and has been taking in donations of food and other essential items at her home address for dry and safe storage.
This has then been delivered to many residents who are alone and isolating and those unable to get to shops.
She also posted cards though dozens of doors with her contact details so people can contact her when in need.

Nadiah has also set up a JustGiving page to raise £500 to help buy essential items: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/coronavirusisolationhelpgroupnadiahmckeown
She said: “I care about the vulnerable people in my community.
“I also care about the families who go week to week relying on food banks.
“So with the fear of Coronavirus many people will be self-isolating and not able to get their everyday essentials.
“That’s where I help by buying and delivering to whoever needs it.
“Cards have been posted though doors with my contact details, so people can contact me when in need.”
