Queens Park, Crewe in the sun - Wed 20-5-2020 (4) (1)

South Cheshire basked in 26C sunshine yesterday (May 20) as the UK enjoyed temperatures even warmer than Marbella on the hottest day of the year so far, writes Jonathan White.

The hot weather was a test of the new lockdown measures after Boris Johnson announced that English residents can now spend as much time as they like outside – as long as social distancing is observed.

Nantwich Lake and Queens Park in Crewe were very popular destinations with people walking, running, walking dogs, cycling, sunbathing and playing recreational games.

The paths and grass areas were available for leisure and the Park Life Café was serving drinks and snacks.

Visitors were urged to keep to two metre social distancing guidelines at all times.

However, all other facilities in Queens Park remain either locked or taped-off which includes the children’s play area (plus wheelchair friendly swing), outdoor gym and both sets of toilets.

All 2020 events within Queens Park remain postponed until further notice.
