The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is being celebrated at Nantwich Museum with an exhibition “Nantwich under the two Elizabeths” opening tomorrow (June 2).
It’s one of the most ambitious exhibitions to be staged at the Pillory Street venue, occupying both galleries.
Life in Nantwich under the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II will be compared and contrasted with reference to buildings, trade, food and health and clothing.
A Heritage Lottery Fund grant is covering the cost and it will also pay for the temporary exhibition to tour the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe and Ford Green Hall in Staffordshire.
There will also be workshops, town tours and special events throughout the summer, including:
On Sunday June 3, Merrie Music at 11am, music by Elizabethan musicians at 4.30pm. Also ‘Sounds of the 1950s’ 2pm and 3pm by guitar vocalist Graham Holly.
On Saturday June 16, Nantwich Singers concert at St Mary’s Church, and on Friday June 22 at 7.30pm Elizabethan Words and Wine.
