A Nantwich cafe owner is feeling mobile as he prepares to train for the 2012 London Marathon.
For John McCormick (pictured) is calling on fellow traders and residents to sponsor him – by donating their old mobile phones.
John, who runs McCormick’s Nantwich on Pepper Street, is taking part in the Virgin London Marathon 2012 to raise funds for Mencap, the UK learning disability charity.
And it’s his first ever marathon.
He said: “I understand in the current financial climate finding cash for sponsorship money can be really difficult.
“So instead I’m asking people to donate their old mobile phones which I can turn into cash for the charity.”
Anyone with an old mobile phone no longer used can drop it off at McCormick’s shop, next to the Post Office.
Local firms should also check suppliy cupboards and if they find a stash of ancient mobile phones, John will come and collect them.
The London Marathon was conceived in 1980, the year John was born.
Mencap is the UK’s leading learning disability charity, and works with people with learning disabilities..
