Mental health hospital admissions in youngsters rises in Cheshire East

Alarming new figures show Cheshire East’s youngsters are being admitted to hospital with mental health conditions almost twice as often as elsewhere in England.

Figures released by Public Health England show a rise in the number of 0 to 17-year-olds admitted to hospital for mental health issues from 2015-16 to 2016-17 across the borough – while admissions also increased in Cheshire West.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is inviting patients, carers and members of the public to stand as a Governor in its upcoming Council of Governor Elections.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, has a Council of Governors made up of 29 individuals over four constituencies.

Angry customers say the move to end the no. 78 service will leave many facing much longer journey times, having to travel to Crewe Bus Station and then changing to get a second service to the hospital.

Leighton Hospital chiefs are set to spend £1.5 million on a third CT scanner as current capacity is “now exhausted”.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital serving Crewe and Nantwich, has approved the business case for the new scanner – which will be more advanced than the current two.
