Festivities began with an official plot inspection by the International Federation of Charming Worms and Allied Pastimes (IFCWAP).

The 46th Worm Charming Annual Championships are set to take place in Willaston on June 21.
The event is one of the UK’s unusual and endearing competitions which attracts participants and media from around the world.
Willaston councillors say they have fought off a challenge to take over fields bordering their allotment site off Crewe Road.
It’s believed the challenge was related to a housing developer’s plan to build 220 houses, although this has not been confirmed.

A Willaston woman is gearing up for a muddy, adrenaline-fuelled adventure in support of Cancer Research UK.
Sarah Iggo, 48, will team up with friends Beth, Jen, and Katherine – collectively known as the Wacky Racers – to take on the ‘Tatton Park Pretty Muddy 5K’ on Saturday July 26.

The fire broke out at a property on Cedar Court at around 1pm on Friday (December 27).

The Peacock Railway in Willaston will be running trains for the public this Sunday (August 4) from 12pm.
The trains are run by the members of the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society on their premises behind The Peacock Inn on Crewe Road.
Willaston Garden Party is returning for its third year and will be held on Lettie Spencer Playing Field this Saturday July 6.
The event has been organised by Willaston Parish Council events committee and will run between 12 noon and 7pm.

Cllr Wayne Salisbury has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of Willaston Parish Council.
Cllr Salisbury signed the acceptance of office and received the chains of office from Cllr Craig Bailey who stepped down after five years.
