Willaston Parish Council has granted the title of Honorary Freewoman to resident Edith Ridgway.
The honour is in recognition of the 100-year-old’s services to fundraising and the community.

More “virtual” Remembrance Sunday services are being held across Crewe and Nantwich as real services have had to be cancelled because of Covid lockdown.
Nantwich Town Council announced earlier this week they would be streaming the service live from St Mary’s Church in Nantwich.

The Wistaston and Rope War Memorial Project will be officially opened on Remembrance Sunday if government Covid-19 guidelines allow.
The names of 16 local men who died in the two World Wars are commemorated on the Memorial cross in the grounds of St Mary’s Church, Wistaston.
Willaston Primary School closes year groups after positive Covid test
Willaston Primary School has sent two year groups home after one of its pupils tested positive for Covid-19.
It’s believed years 3 and 4 have been sent home and those pupils will have to self isolate for two weeks, to return on October 14.

Cheshire Police has unveiled its new “community policing” model with “dedicated officers and PCSOs” in 122 community areas.
It will include new police bases in community and village halls in and around Nantwich.

Draft proposals from Cheshire East highways include making it no entry into Colleys Lane from the A530.
Police appeal after cyclist and HGV collision in Willaston
Police are appealing for information and dashcam footage after a cyclist was injured in collision with an HGV in Willaston earlier today (September 8).
The incident happened on the A51 at the Peacock roundabout at around 7.50am.
Police probe night-time crime spree in Willaston village
Police are investigating a crime spree in Willaston which saw cars vandalised, vehicles pelted with bricks and property damaged.
The incidents, believed to have been caused by youths, happened between 11pm (July 9) and 4am yesterday (July 10).
