Cheshire East is aiming to make S106 agreements more flexible after a damning internal audit report revealed millions of pounds had not been allocated to agreed schemes.
S106 agreements are contracts between the council and developers to secure financial or other contributions to mitigate the impact of new housing developments.

A damning audit report on Cheshire East Council’s arrangements for managing S106 agreements has revealed millions of pounds hasn’t been allocated to agreed schemes.
A summary of the report to the audit and governance committee stated eight contributions received between 2018/19 and 2021/22 totalling £5.8 million were identified as unallocated.
A public interest report into the culture and governance of Cheshire East Council between 2014-18 could cost the authority a whopping £319,370.
That’s the external auditor’s proposed fee for the report which investigates the controversial practices of the council under former leader Michael Jones.
Staff at Nantwich-based business Boughey Distribution are celebrating after it achieved a top A+ rating in a British Retail Consortium audit.
The company, which has recently had £1.3 million investment for ongoing improvements, achieved the Global Standard for Storage rating.
