Two of Cheshire’s biggest further education colleges have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger.
The proposal would bring together Cheshire College – South & West, including its Crewe campus, and Macclesfield College.
Staff at Cheshire College South & West will take industrial action for four days over July and August in a dispute over pay, the University and College Union has announced.
An overwhelming 79% of UCU members who voted backed strike action in a ballot that had a turnout of 58%.
Plans are underway for Cheshire College – South & West to merge with Macclesfield College.
If the merger goes ahead, it would create a huge education provider with around 11,000 learners.
The Principal and CEO of Cheshire College – South & West has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Jasbir Dheshi – known as Dheshi – was awarded it for services to education.
Cheshire College – South & West’s annual end-of-year art exhibition is now open to the public.
The exhibition is traditionally held at the college’s Crewe and Chester campuses.
Five A Level students at Cheshire College – South & West have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
The five learners, from the college’s Crewe Campus, have been offered places to study at the two most prestigious universities in the UK.
A team of budding entrepreneurs at Cheshire College – South & West beat off many strong challengers at this year’s Young Enterprise Competition.
They won the “Best Presentation” category as well as being awarded runner up in the “Company of the Year” category.

A Wistaston resident and a work colleague completed their first-ever tandem skydives to raise money for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.
Sarah Iggo, an inclusive learning advisor at Cheshire College – South & West (Crewe Campus) and work colleague Chris Baggs, from Trentham, took part in the charity skydive at Tilstock Airfield, near Whitchurch.

Second Year A Level student Nariah Majid was recognised by the University of Oxford as a Pembroke Scholar and will take part in an additional event linked to the Pembroke North Programme.
More than 1,300 pupils from 32 Cheshire primary schools enjoyed a fun packed week at the 24th Primary College event at Cheshire College – South & West.
