CEC unveil cost-cutting plan to save £91 million in four years

Cheshire East looks set to approve a cost-cutting plan to “transform” the council and save up to £91 million over the next four years as it struggles to stave off effective bankruptcy.

The cash-strapped council needs to plug a £100 million funding gap by 2028.

Cheshire East Council’s head of finance has warned the authority may not have enough in reserves next year to support the budget.

The council is already facing a funding gap of £13.1m for the year 2023/24, and is working to reduce that by the end of March.
